Who will survive the first round of our wild-card region?

Yes, we know we haven't done one of these for a while.

But today we return with the first-round voting for our final region, the Terry Hoeppner Region. As we explained earlier, this is the "catch-all region of IU personalities and things" named after the late, great former IU football coach.

Here are your first-round matchups, along with an explanation of each:

(1) Fred Glass vs. (16) Fan's Choice: Marni Mooney

The fireworks-loving AD takes on our reader's choice option, the perfect APR score-loving academic advisor for IU Athletics.

(8) Chris Korman vs. (9) Dustin Dopirak

Two former H-T sportswriters face off in this 8-9 matchup. Sorry, Mike Miller, but maybe we'll put you on the 2025 version of MR. HOOSIER.

(5) @ChronicHoosier vs. (12) CREANFACE

The venerable IU twitter account and friend of the site @ChronicHoosier is sure to weigh in during a big game or whenever BBQ is served in B-Town. His opponent has a way of showing up during every IU basketball game, especially when things aren't going well.

(4) Kevin Wilson vs. (13) Bill Lynch

Two IU football coaches compete for the right to move on. Fun but depressing fact: Wilson and Lynch have identical 6-26 records in the B1G after 4 years at the school for both.

(6) Ken Nunn vs. (11) Dan Dakich

One guy loves IU hoops. The other guy loves (to opine about) IU hoops.

(3) Tom Crean vs. (14) Mike Davis

OH YES WE DID MAKE THIS A FIRST ROUND MATCHUP.

(7) IU Credit Union vs. (10) Barbasol

"We started a credit union... And got a close shave in the process!"

(2) Bill Cook vs. (15) Brad Stevens Rumors

Bill Cook has his name on IU's state-of-the-art practice facility. Meanwhile, the other IS TOTALLY GONNA HAPPEN YOU GUYS I HEAR HE TOTALLY WANTS OUT OF BOSTON.

Alright everyone, you know the drill - vote early and as often as you'd like right here:

Some of these guys rose off the bench to become contributors. Some don't play at all. Here are your choices.

Yesterday, you picked your favorite GRIT & GRINDERS from the Damon Bailey Region. Today, we move on to the IVAN RENKO REGION, which we described in our intro piece as guys that either a) were loved because they were just so dang bad or b) rose to an unlikely role deep off the bench and evolved into a serviceable player. The team memes. This does not need further explanation.

Ben provided both sides to the story yesterday, but THEN Y'ALL VOTED OUT LEVRON WILLIAMS so to hell with that. Here's who I think you should pick in each matchup.

(1) Tijan Jobe vs. (16) Fan's Choice: Tom Pritchard

Pritchard shouldn't technically be in this category, really, but y'all voted him in anyway. Still, this isn't close. Our own David Siegel will have a profile on Tijan Jobe tomorrow that you won't want to miss, too. VOTE: TIJAN.

(8) Josiah Sears vs. (9) Isaiah Roundtree

Roundtree is a super-likeable dude that seems to be an undersized favorite of the guys on the team, who eventually earned his way on scholarship. BUT JOSIAH SEARS. Guy went from novelty white-dude short yardage back to team captain as a senior, should probably be in the GRIT GUY category. I mean how can you not like this dude running over middling MAC linebackers? VOTE: SEARS

(5) Ryan Tapak vs. (12) Mark Johnson

TEAMMATES. Confession: Ryan Tapak was my favorite Hoosier basketball player for a period in middle school. There was a period of time as a young (read: bad) point guard my on-court influences were Jason Williams and RYAN DANG TAPAK. I will romanticize this game forever, in which two walk-ons ran train on Ohio State and Indiana was about to make a cinderella run to the tournament and bring another title home to Bloomington. They missed the tournament instead. Still. VOTE: TAPAK

4) Zander Diamont vs. (13) Ty Smith

Ty Smith seems real chill, is from Bloomington, and is Tracy Smith's kid. He's also friends with Zander Diamont, who wins this matchup by approximately 6,504,974 points. He'll eventually be off this list, but when you start the year not even on the two-deep, you are technically a bench guy. Plus, did you think we'd leave him out of this tournament? PLEASE. VOTE: DIAMONT

(6) Kory Barnett vs. (11) Danny Moore

Danny Moore played some! I still have no idea if Kory Barnett has ever held a basketball. I don't think there's ever video proof of this -- stills can be photoshopped. VOTE: BARNETT.

(3) Kyle Taber vs. (14) Nate Ritchie

Taber actually made some starts, but gets docked points because Sampson. Nate Ritchie is a white-dude walk-on who beat Troy Williams & Hanner Perea in a dunk contest. VOTE: RITCHIE

(7) Jeff Howard vs. (10) Tim Priller

Y'all are going to vote for Priller on sheer #recencybias alone, but Howard actually did things occasionally. I still don't know exactly what a "Tim Priller" is. I need more weirdness from you, Tim. VOTE: HOWARD but reserve the right to change vote if it is discovered Priller is an Uber driver within the next week.

(2) Errek Suhr vs. (15) Rhett Lewis Kleinschmidt

Hulls + Fife + Moore = Errek Suhr. I really like NFL AM, Rhett, but Errek wins this one going away. VOTE: SUHR.

CAST YOUR VOTE HERE.

After falling behind early, Jeff Overton rallied to rout Kellen Lewis & James Hardy in the region's only big upset.

Real quickly, here's yesterday's voting results from the Calbert Cheaney Region. You can vote on these second round matchups coming up on Friday:

(1) Victor Oladipo 64.2% over (16) Christian Watford - 35.8%

(9) DJ White, 58.7% over (8) Eric Gordon 41.7%

(12) Tom Coverdale, 53% over (5) Kyle Schwarber, 47%

(4) Cody Zeller, 94.4% over (13) Derek Drouin, 5.6%

(11) Jeff Overton, 80.3% over (6) James Hardy/Kellen Lewis, 19.7%

Our second region features some of the best role players and fan favorites of IU athletics over the past 15 years.

Yesterday, we did the voting for the first round of the Cheaney Region, which were 16 of the finest athletes to put on a Hoosier uniform in the 21st Century, many of whom have also had success in the pros.

Today, we move on to the Damon Bailey Region. As we described in our introductory post, the Bailey region "looked for the do-more-with-less, fan-favorite types, but the ones that had a contributing role to the team." So here's our collection of supporting actors, glue guys, grit guys, fan favorites, and others for this region:

(1) AJ Moye vs. (16) Fan's Choice: Will Sheehey

Y'all chose Sheehey for this. Ughhhh. Moye vs. Sheehey might be a brutal 1-16 matchup.

(8) Ben Chappell vs. (9) Gibran Hamdan

A battle of former IU QBs of the 2000s. Chappell's Show was IU's answer to Jared Lorenzen, and he almost singlehandedly beat Michigan that one time. Meanwhile, Hamdan played 7 NFL seasons, was one of the best NFL EUROPE quarterbacks ever, and now has his own clothing line.

(5) Jordan Hulls vs. (12) Austin Starr

Many of you thought Jordy should have been seeded higher, but we like SPORT DIVERSITY. Austin Starr kicked a lot of field goals, including the one that our managing editor maintains is Indiana's best sporting moment since 2000.

(4) Joey DeNato vs. (13) Kevin Alston

Former IU staff ace Joey DeNato was the definition of a GRITTY GRINDER, an undersized innings-eater that helped lead Indiana to a cinderella run to the 2013 CWS. He's now working his way up the Phillies minor league organization. Kevin Alston was a defensive stalwart during the late Freitag era, and now plays for the New England Revolution in MLS. Oh, and yeah, he beat cancer last year.

(6) Levron Williams vs. (11) Collin Hartman

A battle of two Hoosier natives. After his time at IU, Antwaan Randle El's dynamic yet under-appreciated running mate returned home to play for the Evansville BlueCats indoor league team after a short stint with the San Diego Chargers. This season, Hartman came off a torn ACL to provide some much-needed frontcourt relief, and had one preeeeeetty great game against Maryland.

(3) Tracy Porter vs. (14) Shane Wynn

Porter might get penalized by Colts fans for the pick-6 he made to seal the Super Bowl XLIV victory for the Saints five years ago, but Indiana's one lockdown corner gets major GRIT points. Wynn is like 4-foot-7, can freakin' fly, and was the most consistent receiver on last year's IU team. He has an outside shot at getting drafted next week, too.

(7) Marcus Thigpen vs. (10) Jarrad Odle

The 5-9 Thigpen has at least been on the practice squad for NINE different NFL or CFL teams in the past six years and has run back a handful of kicks for touchdowns on Sundays. He also recorded a rap song at Indiana that played during games. It wasn't good, but still. Here is a cool Angelfire page about Odle that will take you back to the very early days of web #content.

(2) Dane Fife vs. (15) Sam Travis

We'll start off the voting with the guys that were the faces of IU athletics through the 2000s, and you can vote as often as you'd like!

Your new favorite post-season tournament begins today! Because it's the offseason, we need your help in selecting Indiana fans' favorite athlete from the first fifteen years of the 21st century. Last Thursday, we unveiled the full bracket -- save for four write-in candidates we left up to you. Here, y'all chose Christian Watford by a hair over Kirk Haston. Well, they actually tied, but Haston wasn't really a 21st century guy for his entire career, so we made an executive decision. We'll announce the others as we continue through the bracket.

TODAY, WE VOTE. ALL DAY LONG. NEVER LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER.

Let's just get right to the matchups, shall we?

Over the course of the next two weeks, you can help us determine your favorite Hoosier -- or Hoosier thing -- since 2000. Here's the bracket.

An interesting debate broke out in a CQ staff meeting last night -- who's the most beloved IU-related figure since the turn of the century? Is it a superstar player -- like a Antwaan Randle El or Victor Oladipo? Is it a GRITTY GRINDER HEART guy like AJ Moye or Dane Fife? Or should it be a guy like Bill Cook, someone that provided the funds to bring Indiana's athletic facilities into the 21st century? The debate, of course, could not be settled, and since it's the offseason and we're tired of stalking Thon Maker on social media -- we need your help.

Our staff has broken the candidates up into four regions: the SUPERSTARS, the ROLE PLAYERS, the BENCHWARMERS, and HOOSIER POTPOURRI. Over the course of the next two weeks, we'll go region-by-region, round-by-round and let you vote each day on who you think should advance in each matchup. Today, we'll unveil 15 candidates in each region -- leaving one spot open in each for YOU, THE FAN to determine. Suggest your write-in candidates below in the comments, and they'll be the 16 seeds when we the voting ramps up tomorrow.

BUT NOW, THE BRACKET.

All decisions of the CQ Selection Committee are final. Unless you pay us. Then we'll talk. Bracket chosen by CQ managing editor Kyle Robbins, assistant editors Kyle Swick & Ben Raphel, and staff writers David Siegel and Alex Robbins. We tried our best to keep recency bias out of this, but Indiana athletics was kind of really largely unmemorable from like 2004-2009. So sorry.

THE CALBERT CHEANEY REGION (SUPERSTARS)

This category weighed heavily how good you were at Indiana, with hype and pro performance also playing a factor. I.e., high draft pick & All-american & national titles = higher seed.

(1) Victor Oladipo vs. (16) Fan's Choice Candidate

(8) Eric Gordon vs. (9) DJ White

(5) Kyle Schwarber vs. (12) Tom Coverdale

(4) Cody Zeller vs. (13) Derek Drouin

(6) Kellen Lewis/James Hardy vs. (11) Jeff Overton

(3) Jared Jeffries vs. (14) Danny O'Rourke

(7) Tevin Coleman vs. (10) Cody Latimer

(2) Antwaan Randle-El vs. (15) Josh Phegley

THE DAMON BAILEY REGION (BEST SUPPORTING ACTORS)

This region looked for the do-more-with-less, fan-favorite types, but the ones that had a contributing role to the team. We're necessarily the front man for the team's success, but might have been the locker room leaders. The holy-crap-he-was-actually-good-but-how-guys, too. Also the guys that we didn't know where else to put, but should be on here, I guess.

(1) AJ Moye vs. (16) Fan's Choice

(8) Ben Chappell vs. (9) Gibran Hamdan

(5) Jordan Hulls vs. (12) Austin Starr

(4) Joey DeNato vs. (13) Kevin Alston

(6) Levron Williams vs. (11) Collin Hartman

(3) Tracy Porter vs. (14) Shane Wynn

(7) Marcus Thigpen vs. (10) Jarrod Odle

(2) Dane Fife vs. (15) Sam Travis

THE IVAN RENKO REGION (THE BENCH MOB)

Here falls guys that either a) were loved because they were just so dang bad or b) rose to an unlikely role deep off the bench and evolved into a serviceable player. The team memes. This does not need further explanation.

(1) Tijan Jobe vs. (16) Fan's Choice

(8) Josiah Sears vs. (9) Isaiah Roundtree

(6) Kory Barnett vs. (11) Danny Moore

(3) Kyle Taber vs. (14) Nate Ritchie

(7) Jeff Howard vs. (10) Tim Priller

(2) Errek Suhr vs. (15) Rhett Lewis Kleinschmidt

THE TERRY HOEPPNER REGION (HOOSIER POTPOURRI)

We kept Coach Hep out of the discussion here, because he'd win the whole dang thing running away -- or at least he should. Instead, we named this catch-all region of IU personalities and things after him.

(1) Fred Glass vs. (16) Fan's Choice

(8) Chris Korman vs. (9) Dustin Dopirak

(5) @ChronicHoosier vs. (12) CREANFACE

(4) Kevin Wilson vs. (13) Bill Lynch

(6) Ken Nunn vs. (11) Dan Dakich

(3) Tom Crean vs. (14) Mike Davis

(7) IU Credit Union vs. (10) Barbasol

(2) Bill Cook vs. (15) Brad Stevens Rumors
