Does recruiting the state of Indiana still matter?
In the years after the Kelvin Sampson texting fiasco, the program cleansed itself and made a renewed dedication to recruit players that fit the Indiana mold. That meant locking up the state's homegrown talent first and foremost. While this effort was accomplished in the past, recent years have started to veer off into a different direction as the recruiting landscape has become more of a national picture than a local one. Is this a good or bad thing?
Thon Maker set to make reclassification decision next week
This weekend might make the last time Thon Maker plays a game as a member of the Class of 2016. Maker's guardian Ed Smith tells Adam Zagoria that the phenom & IU target will likely decide next week if he's going to reclassify and enroll in college next season. Kentucky & Kansas have both been hot on Maker's heels, but those around Maker have consistently mentioned the Hoosiers' as one of the 7-footer's top choices. It might be in Tom Crean's best interest to hope Maker remains in the '16 class -- the Hoosiers are oversigned by two currently and still recruiting. Crean was expected to watch 2015 target Rawle Atkins in New York this evening.
