Indiana dipped into the state of Florida’s talent-rich pool of football prospects on Tuesday, adding a commitment from athlete Phillip Dunnam.
Although Dunnam is not yet ranked by 247 Sports — that is expected to change in the coming days — he also holds offers from programs such as Florida State, Syracuse and Appalachian State, among others. According to 247 Sports’ Andrew Ivins, IU is recruiting the 6-foot-1, 180-pound North Miami Beach product as a safety.
As a junior last fall, Dunnam saw time at receiver and corner for his high school team while also serving as a punt returner. He recorded three interceptions on defense and hauled in 42 passes for 710 yards and 10 scores on offense across his seven games on the field. Two of his cousins, E.J. Biggers (seventh round, 2009) and Louis Delmas (second round, 2009) were NFL Draft picks.
Dunnam’s decision puts IU’s 2022 recruiting class at 13 commitments so far. According to Ivins, 247 Sports is set to update its 2022 rankings as soon as Wednesday.
