The pre-Big Ten docket is coming together quickly for Mike Woodson and company

Another week, another nugget of non-conference scheduling news for Indiana.

New coach Mike Woodson now has four buy games on the books for his first season with word that IU and Marshall have agreed to a game in Bloomington this fall. The Charleston Gazette-Mail’s Chuck Landon broke news of the non-conference contest in a column last week, and Inside The Hall uncovered the detail on Tuesday morning.

Led by coach Dan D’Antoni, the Thundering Herd are coming off a 15-7 season that included a 9-5 run in Conference USA. Marshall finished last season ranked at No. 143 in KenPom and No. 107 at Bart Torvik.com, with the latter site forecasting it as the No. 172 team nationally entering the 2021-22 season. Across the two seasons prior to last year’s COVID-19 adjusted campaign, D’Antoni’s program played buy games at Notre Dame, Florida, Maryland, Texas A&M and Virginia, dropping all five.

Marshall joins Louisiana-Lafayette, Northern Kentucky and Merrimack on IU’s upcoming non-league slate. The Hoosiers are still awaiting their ACC/Big Ten Challenge assignment, and it’s also possible that IU lands a game in the Gavitt Tipoff Games. We do know that Indiana will face Notre Dame in the Crossroads Classic.

Meanwhile, we’ll get our first look at the roster in a month and a half when the Hoosiers face Serbia outfit BC Mega in two exhibitions in the Bahamas.
