Indiana athletic director Scott Dolson spent recent weeks making progress on IU’s 2026 football schedule, locking in games against Colorado State and UConn. On Wednesday, the athletic department made more scheduling progress, finalizing its 2025 non-conference slate with a season-opening home game against Old Dominion.
The Aug. 30, 2025 contest will mark the first meeting between the Hoosiers and Monarchs, who only recently moved up to Football Bowl Subdivision competition when they joined Conference USA in 2014. According to the Virginian-Pilot, IU will pay ODU a $1.3 million guarantee for playing in Bloomington.
Former Penn State offensive coordinator Ricky Rahne is in his first year as the Monarchs’ coach. ODU did not play any games in 2020.
After opening the 2025 season against the Monarchs, IU will host Louisville at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 6 for the final matchup of a three-game series with the Cardinals. A week later, Indiana State will make the short trip to Bloomington for the Hoosiers’ non-conference finale.
