Indiana is peaking at the right time — and the selection committee is taking notice.
The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee unveiled its second look at the top 16 teams in the country on Sunday, slotting the Hoosiers as a No. 3 seed — and the No. 12 team overall — in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. It’s a move in the right direction for IU, which was projected as a No. 4 seed and the No. 15 team in the field in the committee’s first reveal on Feb. 15.
Because this year’s tournament will be held in San Antonio and the surrounding region, the NCAA has renamed the four regions: the Alamo Region, the Hemisfair Region, the Mercado Region, and the River Walk Region. If the season ended today, IU would land in the Hemisfair quadrant with No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 NC State and No. 4 Oregon.
IU, which is currently placed at No. 10 in the NET rankings, has two games left in the regular season: home vs. Iowa on Wednesday, and home vs. Purdue on Saturday.
