Indiana pauses football activities

For seven straight weeks, Indiana navigated the 2020 football season without any major virus-related hiccups.

That streak is over.

IU announced Tuesday night that it has paused all football team-related activities due to an increase in COVID-19 cases within its program. Neither Indiana nor Purdue practiced on Tuesday — the Boilermakers brought their program to a halt earlier in the day — putting Saturday’s Old Oaken Bucket game in Bloomington in jeopardy.

“The health and safety of our students, coaches, and staff is paramount,” IU athletic director Scott Dolson said. “In consultation with our medical experts, we decided this is the appropriate decision at this time. We will continue to assess the situation moving forward.”
