Teri Moren’s Hoosiers are back in the top 25.
The Associated Press released its preseason top 25 on Tuesday and Indiana is slotted at No. 16, making the Hoosiers the second-highest ranked team in the Big Ten. IU enters the season four spots behind Maryland and one ahead of Northwestern. Ohio State (No. 20) and Michigan (No. 25) also made appearances in the AP rankings.
This is the third time in program history that IU has found itself ranked heading into the regular season. Indiana also appeared in the preseason poll last fall (No. 24) and in 2016 (No. 23). Last year, the Hoosiers spent all 20 weeks of the campaign in the AP top 25, finishing at No. 20 in the final rankings.
Not only do the Hoosiers have four starters coming back, including one of the best point guards in the country, they brought in a couple of intriguing transfers in former Notre Dame forward Danielle Patterson, who sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules, and former George Mason guard Nicole Cardaño-Hillary, who became Mason’s all-time leading scorer last year.
The women’s basketball season is permitted to begin on Nov. 25, however IU is one of the many college programs still working on its schedule.
