On Tuesday College Soccer News released its preseason All-American teams. The third team featured IU center back Jack Maher.

He’s the only Hoosier that was named to any of the teams and is one of just four Big Ten players to make it. He’s joined by Michigan State’s Giuseppe Barone and Patrick Nielsen as well as Michigan’s Jack Hallahan.

Last week Maher was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, the lone sophomore on the list. He’s the only returning starter from last season’s College Cup squad that won both the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles and is expected to be a crucial piece for IU in defense this fall.

As a freshman Maher started in all 24 matches for the Hoosiers at center back, one of the few players to start in each and every match. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and also made both the Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News All-Freshmen first teams.
