On Monday the Maxwell Football Club released the 2019 Maxwell Award Watch List and included IU sophomore Stevie Scott III.
The running back is one of 15 sophomores included in the 80-player list, with other young stars like Trevor Lawrence, Rondale Moore and Justin Fields also vying for the award given annually to college football’s most outstanding player.
Last year Scott had a breakout season. He finished second among true freshmen nationally in rushing yards, racking up 1,137 on the season, and also placed third in the group in rushing touchdowns with 10. He was the 13th Hoosier to hit the 1,000 yard mark in a season, it was the 19th time it had been done in program history. He was named IU’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year and also received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors at season’s end.
This fall Scott figures to be the bell cow back in new coordinator Kalen DeBoer’s offense. He and the Hoosiers will take the field for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 31 against the Ball State Cardinals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
