After a college career filled with success including multiple College Cup appearances and a MAC Hermann Trophy former Hoosier Andrew Gutman has another accomplishment. On Monday the defender, who’s currently on loan at Charlotte Independence of the United Soccer League from Celtic, was included in the United States’s 40-man provisional roster for this Summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
This marks the first time that an active USL player has been called up to the United States Men’s National Team.
If Gutman earns a cap during the tournament, which starts on June 15, he would be the 13th Hoosier alumnus to receive the honor with the USMNT. He would be the first since Lee Nguyen did it in 2015 and the fourth in the last decade, joining Eric Alexander and Will Bruin as well as Nguyen.
As a Hoosier Gutman scored 21 goals and tallied 17 assists before graduating following the 2018 season. So far this season in Charlotte he has score a pair of goals and assisted on another in 11 appearances.
