Indiana will be back in the midwest this week after spending the weekend in Seattle. They’re set to take on Cincinnati in the second half of a home-and-home on Wednesday. In the first meeting of the two teams Indiana won big, beating the Bearcats 7-1 behind strong performances from a mix-match of bullpen arms as well as Matt Gorski, Ryan Fineman, and Cole Barr. Since then Cincinnati got swept by Auburn on the road, swept Bowling Green at home, and then lost a home matchup with Wright State on Tuesday.
Neither team has named a starting pitcher ahead of the matchup. Hoosier fans could possibly expect to see one of a number of guys on the bump to get things going including Cam Beauchamp, Gabe Bierman, and Alex Franklin—who got the start last time against Cincy—among other options. Whoever it may be that gets the ball for the Hoosiers don’t be surprised if Jeff Mercer & Co. decide to make this a bullpen day, trotting out several pitchers after a solid two or three innings from the starter to get things done.
This is a game that the Hoosiers should take somewhat easily as they’re the better, deeper team, but as always baseball is about as unpredictable as things come.
