6-2.
Bowl eligible by Halloween.
POSSIBLY RANKED IN THE AP POLL NEXT WEEK?
#9WINDIANA STILL A VERY REAL AND ACTUALLY LEGITIMATELY POSSIBLE??????
This is the reality that Indiana Football is living in after the Hoosiers went into Lincoln and picked up a huge win against the Nebraska Huskers.
In a game that could ultimately be described as the Full Indiana Football Experience, the Hoosiers continued to proved that this rendition is special with a 38-31 win to punch their ticket to a bowl game.
BOWL ELIGIBLE THREE THINGS!!!!!
Peyton Ramsey: nails.
Ramsey gets a ton of flack from Indiana fans for what he isn’t, but it’s time to change the narrative and appreciate him for what he is: a fighter, a gamer, whatever cliche you want to use here. Ramsey, quite simply, was huge today and largely the reason that the Hoosiers won. Here’s his stat line: 27-41, 351 yards, two TDs and a pick to go with 51 yards on the ground and another score.
For the second straight week, Ramsey came in and made plays when Indiana needed them most. He made multiple throws on third and fourth downs to keep drives alive. He made plays with his legs and played damn near mistake free football. He’s never going to bring the explosiveness that a Michael Penix-led offense has, but Ramsey can win you games. Indiana isn’t 6-2 without him. He’s earned the recognition and praise that he’s going to get after his performance the last couple of weeks.
Big play defense
Indiana’s defense wasn’t great today. The Hoosiers gave up over 500 yards total, 220 of which came on the ground. But the big takeaways were there, something that Tom Allen has preached would be important if Indiana wanted to be bowl eligible.
Indiana got a huge fumble recovery from Allan Stallings IV, who very nearly entered his name into PIESMAN contention by almost taking it to the house. Juwan Burgess also stepped up and recovered a fumble to halt the Huskers from marching deep into Hoosier territory. And with a touchdown lead late in the fourth quarter, Indiana’s defense was able to step up and get a turnover on downs to give the ball back to the offense to put the game on ice.
The Hoosiers haven’t been as good on that side of the ball this year as one would expect under a Tom Allen coached team. However, they did just enough today to keep the Huskers in check at the right times to help seal the win.
The path forward
LOL INDIANA IS BOWL ELIGIBLE AND IT’S NOT EVEN HALLOWEEN! THERE’S STILL ANOTHER MONTH LEFT!
Seriously, let that sink in. Here’s what we have left: Northwestern, at Penn State, Michigan, at Purdue. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Indiana will be favored in three of those four games. The Hoosiers can still make a very, very good bowl game if they continue to play at the level that they’re capable of. #9WINDIANA was never really a bit, but more of a belief that the talent was there fo this team to be something special. Guess what? They’re special. Let’s enjoy the ride and see just where this thing will go.
It’s gonna be a blast. Enjoy this one. Go Hoosiers.
