The search for IU football’s new offensive coordinator is over, it seems. Per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Kalen DeBoer will be the new OC in Bloomington next season.
SOURCE: Indiana is expected to hire Fresno State offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer as its new offensive coordinator. An announcement is expected soon but DeBoer will replace Mike DeBord, who retired last month. DeBoer also has been a coordinator at... https://t.co/y3svn8hZpD

Indiana’s new OC hire may have a similar last name to the previous guy, but the on-field results were much different. DeBoer has been OC under Jeff Tedford at Fresno for the past two years. In that time, the Bulldogs have compiled a 22-6 record, won their division in the Mountain West twice, and won the conference title last season. Fresno’s offense ranked 30th in S&P+ last season, an improvement from 68th in 2017. Last season, Fresno QB Marcus McMaryion was the highest-graded QB in the MWC, according to Pro Football Focus.

DeBoer also went 67-3(!) and won three NAIA titles as head coach at his alma mater, University of Sioux Falls. Overall, this looks to be a positive development for the Hoosiers as the team preps for February Signing Day and offseason workouts.
One question remains: can he be the OC for the basketball team as well?
