REPORT: Matt Canada will not be Indiana’s next offensive coordinator

The search to replace Mike DeBord continues.

According to an article on PGHSportsNow.com, Matt Canada is reportedly speaking to Pat Narduzzi about a reunion that would bring Canada back to the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a finalist for the Broyles Award in 2016 as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Buried in that post is this little nugget:

This same source told PSN that Canada has turned down an opportunity to become the offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Indiana. Apparently, Canada wasn’t comfortable with not having a big say in who his other offensive assistants would be and said no.

If this report is true, it means that Tom Allen is looking for someone to replace Mike DeBord who will, in turn, be comfortable with Mike Hart, Grant Heard, Nick Sheridan, and co. as his position coaches / assistants. It’s not uncommon for coordinators to want to make their own hires and bring along “their guys” to the job, but at least for now, Tom Allen is not going award that flexibility to any potential hire.
