Ramsey beat out graduate transfer Brandon Dawkins and true freshman Mike Penix for the spot. Given the up-and-down nature of Ramsey’s play last season, this is likely not a long-term decision, though it’ll be Ramsey’s job should he perform well.
Last season, Ramsey started four games, going 1-3 in that span. Ramsey led the Hoosiers in a fourth-quarter comeback against Michigan and manged the game against the Spartans that the Hoosiers were in late, but both resulted in a loss. An injury would hamper Ramsey and eventually sideline him for the season.
The decision is not a surprising one for now. Given Ramsey’s experience with the coaching staff and the playbook, Ramsey had a leg up in the competition from day one. All eyes will be on the sophomore now with two capable backups waiting in the wings.
