CQ Best Bets: Week 6

Very profitable week with enough heartbreak to keep you wanting more.

NCAA Football: Eastern Michigan at San Diego State Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

We’re coming off a 7-6 week but thanks to all our high-confidence picks hitting and the lower ones making up the majority of the losses, we had a massive profit.

And if Eastern Michigan had held on to their touchdown lead in OT, we would have had a People’s Parlay victory on top of it. I’M NOT BITTER.

LAST WEEK: 7-6 (+13 units)

YTD: 35-30 (+24 units), 13.64% ROI

ONTO THE PICKS

WEEK FIVE:

HOOSIER SPECIAL: 4-4 (+4 units) /// Indiana (+25) at Ohio State (64.5)

KYLE’S BET: Indiana (+25) (1 unit)

77% of the bets are currently on Ohio State and the number is moving down. I’ll fade the public and take the points, but I’d be skipping this game if I wasn’t forced to pick it. Ohio State 38, Indiana 14

ALEX’S BET: Under 64.5 (2 units)

The over/under key is the Indiana defense. The Hoosier offense, now that Mike Debord has come back to reality and started calling every play like he’s got a 40-point lead with two minutes remaining, doesn’t have nearly enough to hang around with the Buckeyes. But the defense has been formidable, and I think they keep this from turning into an all-time thrashing. Ohio State 31, Indiana 6

GAME OF THE WEEK: 5-4 (+5 units) /// Texas (+7.5) v. Oklahoma (61.5)

KYLE’S BET: Oklahoma (-7.5) (2 units)

I kept hoping this number would drop below a touchdown, and truthfully I’ll hold off a little longer to see if it does. Lots of talk this week about how Herman is aces as a dog ATS from a lot of cappers that I respect so I’ll take the contrarian play. Oklahoma 41, Texas 31

ALEX’S BET: Oklahoma (-7.5)

Texas still isn’t good, guys. I now they’ve beaten USC and TCU and squeaked one out in Manhattan last week. But this is just different. Boomer Sooner. Oklahoma 45, Texas 24

FAVORITE OF THE WEEK: 8-4 (+14 units)

KYLE’S BET: Kansas State at BAYLOR (-4.5) (3 units)

Coming off a thirty-three point loss in Norman, I expect Baylor to easily control a Kansas State team that is in free fall (they now have a lower S&P+ than Kansas!) I don’t typically love picking against Bill Snyder, but he’s 1-3 ATS this year against the P5. His team just isn’t any good. Baylor 24, Kansas State 10

ALEX’S BET: LSU (-1) at Florida (5 units)

Maybe I got lucky and looked at the board at the right time, because most of the week, LSU has been -2.5 or -3 in this one. But even at -6.5, I’d put 3 or 4 units on it. Getting LSU needing any kind of win to keep from losing money? I’m geauxing all in. LSU 24, Florida 13

UNDERDOG OF THE WEEK: 4-6 (-3 units)

KYLE’S BET: FLORIDA STATE (+14) at Miami (5 units)

I’ve been watching this rivalry intently for over a decade now. I don’t care how bad the Seminoles have looked, them catching two touchdowns in Miami is insanity. I know S&P+ likes the Canes by even more and FSU’s offensive line is an absolute mess going up against a fearsome Miami pass rush, but I don’t anticipate a blowout. Miami 24, FSU 21

ALEX’S BET: MISSOURI (+1) at South Carolina (4 units)

If the offense that Missouri has put on the field in its last two outings — a win at Purdue and a respectable showing against Georgia — shows up, Muschamp and company don’t have nearly enough to stay with them. Missouri 31, South Carolina 21

OVER OF THE WEEK: 6-5 (+4 units)

KYLE’S BET: South Alabama at Georgia Southern (o54.5) (2 units)

South Alabama is 5-0 to the over and Georgia Southern is 4-0 to the under. Something will have to give, and while Southern likes to slow the game down, I’m counting on their defense to be unable to stop the Jaguars big plays and their offense to be able to score at ease against bad Jags defense. Georgia Southern 37, South Alabama 28

ALEX’S BET: Wyoming at Hawaii (o57) (5 units)

Lol. An over/under below 60 involving Hawaii. Where do I sign up to pay off my student loans? Hawaii 42, Wyoming 31

UNDER OF THE WEEK: 5-5 (-1 units)

KYLE’S BET: Illinois at Rutger (u49) (2 units)

Yeah. Rutger 14, Illinois 7

ALEX’S BET: Nebraska at Wisconsin (u 58.5) (3 units)

FIFTY-EIGHT AND ONE-HALF POINTS. That’s how much you need out of Wisconsin and the winless mouthbreathers from Lincoln. No way. Wisconsin 38, Nebraska 10

BEN RAPHEL’S THIRTY-POINT PLAY: 3-2 (+1 units)

BEN’S BET: Alabama (-35) at Arkansas

I’m not going against Saban and Tua Tagovaiola when they’re playing a team that got housed by North Texas and lost to Colorado State. Chad Morris is trying to get a spread offense going with Bert’s old players, and the results haven’t been stellar so far. The Hogs’ defense had a nice game against A&M, but Bama is still a different level. The Tide roll again. Alabama 52, Arkansas 10

NOT-YOUR-BEST BETS: OVERALL RECORD (0-11)

Please do not wager large amounts on these. Or if you do and they hit, paypal in bio.
