Archie Miller’s first official game at Indiana University seems to be set. According to a report from WTHI’s Rick Semmler, Indiana will open the 2017-18 college basketball season by hosting the Indiana State Sycamores on November 10, 2017.
IU-ISU wanted to keep it quiet until done. Not signed but 2 schools have set up to open college basketball season Nov 10th in Bloomington

While the final deal doesn’t seem to be sealed, this is quite the step up of opponent quality for a nondescript filler home non-conference — even one to open the season. While Greg Lansing’s Sycamores turned in their worst season since 2009 last year, the Trees still managed to finish inside KenPom’s Top 200 at the end of the season. That’s something that can’t be said for [hold on, let me count] uh..
uh..
er,
1, 2, 3..
...8! Eight of Indiana’s 2016-17 non-conference opponents.
Plus, it’s not like Indiana State hasn’t pulled off improbable road wins against power conference teams before -- Lansing’s ballclub just knocked off Butler in Terre Haute last season.
Better name for fans on the schedule. Better team for the schedule at the end of the year. This is good, and doesn’t suck.
We’ll update this when more details come out on the game — and Indiana’s non-conference schedule.
