Tegray Scales has the chance to have a special season this year.
After flourishing in Tom Allen’s defense this past season, the Indiana linebacker has now been named Chuck Bednarik Award watch list.
The Bednarik award honors college football’s defensive player of the year, and Scales is one of 29 linebackers to be named to the list.
The announcement serves as another reason to recognize how vital Scales may be to Indiana’s success this upcoming year. Last season, Scales led the nation with 93 solo stops and 23.5 tackles for loss. He most importantly served as a leader for a defense that had to adjust to entirely new system.
Now, with another year of experience under his belt, Scales will be looking to improve as a player and increase his draft stock.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced Oct. 30, before the unveiling of three finalists on Nov. 20. The winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 7.
