2017 NBA Draft: Sixers sign James Blackmon Jr. as undrafted free agent

Despite going undrafted, James Blackmon Jr. found a landing spot on Thursday evening.

After going undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft, James Blackmon Jr. was one of the first undrafted free agents to reach a deal on the night, signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Despite drafting Markelle Fultz, Jawun Evans and Sterling Brown, there could be a path for Blackmon to earn a roster spot. The Sixers’ backcourt last season of T.J. McConnell, Sergio Rodriguez, Jerryd Bayless, Gerald Henderson and Nik Stauskas leaves much to be desired for a contending team.

Still, the most likely path for Blackmon will be similar to Yogi Ferrell’s path where he can make an impact in the Summer League and earn a training camp invite.

The Sixers take part in the the Vegas Summer League. The Summer League kicks off on July 7. Philly’s first game will be on Saturday, July 8, against Golden State.
