With the 23rd pick in the draft, the Toronto Raptors selected former Indiana forward OG Anunoby.
The 6’7” 232 pound athlete follows a similar pattern to most taken in this draft, as Anunoby was taken as high as he was mostly based upon potential.
Anunoby is a player that has always shown spurts of greatness, providing athleticism at the rim and defensive versatility that fits the NBA like a glove. The biggest question mark surrounding Anunoby coming into this draft was clearly his health after his sophomore year was cut short by an ACL injury. With the injury in mind, Anunoby finished his sophomore year with 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.
Even with that health based question mark, it’s hard to pass up on a basketball player with his measurables. Anunoby is a physical specimen with a 7’2.25” wing span that provides him at least the ability to do some of the roles on the court that will never go out of style. This includes defense and rebounding.
If Anunoby can continue to develop his offensive ability and focus on his health, one can expect to see a lot of Anunoby in the NBA for years to come. For now, he will at least be able to plug in as a role player for the Raptors.
