Senior Alexis Gassion has been known as someone who doesn’t exactly get recognized in the stat sheet. She still scores at a high rate, but her greatest contribution to the Hoosiers can’t be recorded.

Every game for Indiana, Alexis Gassion finds herself assigned with guarding the opponents best player. In speaking with Assistant Coach Rhet Wierzba, that’s something she takes pride in. Now, she has been recognized for it.

Alexis Gassion has been named the Big Ten’s All-Defensive team along with being given an honorable mention in regards to being All-Big Ten.

Gassion is now the second player in IU history to earn All-Defensive honors. The only other Hoosier to do so was Kim Robinson. Robinson achieved the feat in 2008 and 2009. Gassion has averaged 12.6 points and 6 rebounds per game this season. She also averaged 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

In addition to these statistics on the year, Gassion is also eighth in program history with 81 career blocks.

Gassion’s defensive awareness should be vital moving forward, as the Hoosiers take on the Big Ten Tournament this weekend.
