Scales has been making plays for the Indiana football defense since his freshman season. He was a key part of Indiana’s defensive renaissance under defensive coordinator Tom Allen, who has now taken over as head coach. During his junior year, Scales was named all-Big Ten second team and was also named a second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated. He has 92 tackles last season, including 10 against Utah in the Foster Farms Bowl. He also had a pick-six in the season-opener against FIU, and had 7 sacks on the season.
Scales was turning into a leader on the defense this season, and anchored Allen’s 4-2-5 defensive unit that finished 31st in defensive S&P+ rankings.
