With National Signing Day just around the corner, Tom Allen & Co. have their biggest possible fish yet coming to Bloomington this weekend per a report from 247Sports.
Tampa Catholic High School running back Devan Barrett, a consensus four-star back & the 11th-best at his position in the 2017 class, is reportedly exploring options outside of Auburn despite remaining committed -- and Indiana is one of those schools. Tennessee seems to be other, Barratt having visited Knoxville this past weekend.
Now, per a 247Sports report, he’s coming to Bloomington this weekend. He’ll be joined on the trip with Tampa area 3-star defensive end Bobby Roundtree, who’s also weighing offers Louisville, Michigan State, and Virginia Tech.
If Barrett (92 average on 247Composite) were to flip his Auburn pledge, he’d be Indiana’s biggest football recruiting pick-up since 2000 — when Cam Cameron added Chicago area defensive end Stephen Williams to the roster (albeit for only a single season). Darius Latham (91) & Dominique Booth (90) were the biggest signings of the Kevin Wilson era in Bloomington.
So, how did Indiana get in on a top running back coming from deep in SEC territory? Well, there’s no one in America recruiting the Tampa metropolitan area better than the Indiana Hoosiers this year. 5 of Indiana’s 21 2017 recruits hail from the city & surrounding area, that’s better than every other school in the nation — including Florida, Florida State, Miami, & USF. Barrett & Roundtree could drive that total all the way up to 7.
Here’s a look at a 98-yard run from Barrett last season.
