Kyle Schwarber had surgery for a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee on April 19.
Wednesday night, barely six months later, War Bear led the Cubs to a victory in Game 2 of the World Series.
Schwarber singled in Anthony Rizzo in the first inning before doing the same for Ben Zobrist in the fifth inning, finishing the night 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a walk as the Cubs won 5-0.
It’s hard to put into words what Schwarber is doing. In game one, he came just inches shy of a homerun, settling for a monster double while walking once.
Schwarber had not had not played in an MLB game in six months. He had not seen live MLB pitching in six months. He did not have a hit in the 2016 regular season. He had all of five plate appearances in the 2016 season.
Yet in the biggest stage , Schwarber delivered and helped level the series.
Imagine the ovation he’s going to get Friday night at Wrigley.
