For the first time in a couple of years, Indiana football has received votes in the AP Top 25 poll, released on Sunday afternoon. This comes on the back of IU’s huge 24-21 overtime win over Michigan State late Saturday night.
By my figuring, this is the first time IU’s gotten top 25 votes since 2014, the week after beating Missouri at Mizzou. That was also the last time before yesterday that Indiana beat a ranked team in football, so you can see how there’s some correlation there.
After being ranked 17th in the AP poll last week, the loss to the Hoosiers knocked the Spartans out of the top 25. Despite the loss, MSU still got more votes than Indiana (7 to 3, for those keeping score) but I can’t complain about that. No matter what, this is a minor but cool honor for the team after a big win. I’d bet they’ll get more votes if they win next week at Ohio State, though.
