An introduction to the Class of 2017

Hoo boy, 2017 is shaping up to be a hell of a class. Loaded with major talent at both the Indiana and national levels, IU has its work cut out, but there is no shortage of prospects to work with.

Dem Indiana Boyz

Kris Wilkes, 6'6", 170 lb SF (North Central, Indianapolis, IN)

247Composite Ranking: #19 Overall, #4 SF

Where IU Stands: Indiana was quick to offer the 5-star Wilkes as a freshman, and has stayed in constant contact throughout his high school career, with Wilkes making unofficial visits to Bloomington on multiple occasions. As more and more schools extend offers, IU hopes that a hometown school being involved from the start carries some weight.

Paul Scruggs, 6'4", 200 lb PG (Southport, Indianapolis, IN)

247Composite Ranking: #25 Overall, #4 PG

Where IU Stands: Tom Crean knew immediately the type of player Scruggs was going to become when he offered the Indy native prior to ever playing in a high school game. Scruggs has often been spotted in Bloomington for IU games, and the interest level from both sides is extremely high.

Malik Williams, 6'11", 200 lb C (Snider, Fort Wayne, IN)

247Composite Ranking: #87 Overall, #12 Center

Where IU Stands: After bursting onto the scene during his sophomore campaign, Tom Crean made Indiana the first program to offer Williams a scholarship. The lanky prospect is one of the most promising in the state, and should develop quickly as a basketball player as he fills into his body.

Zach Gunn, 6'6", 200 lb SG (Hamilton Southeastern, Indianapolis, IN)

247Composite Ranking: N/A

Where IU Stands: Gunn was part of the original 2017 Indianapolis trio (Wilkes, Scruggs) that the Hoosiers made a point to offer extremely early in the process. Gunn has been coming to Indiana for years, and described his experience at the 2014 Hoosier Hysteria as "awesome".

Jaren Jackson Jr., 6'8", 175 lb SF (Park Tudor, Indianapolis, IN)

247Composite Ranking: #38 Overall, #9 PG

Where IU Stands: Jackson Jr., the son of former Georgetown and NBA player Jaren Jackson, is one of the top prospects in the 2017 class. He is being sought after by a number of schools, with offers from IU, Butler, and Purdue, a list that is almost certain to expand very soon.

Targets that have the last name "Maker"

Matur Maker, 6'10", 200 lb (Carlisle School, Martinsville, VA)

247Composite Ranking: #35 Overall, #8 SF

Where IU Stands: Being the younger brother of a prospect so renowned as Thon Maker has its advantages. Matur Maker has legit skills that stand alone on their own, though. The Hoosier staff was quick to recognize this and became the first school to extend a scholarship offer. #PAYMATURMAKER

The Others

Michael Porter, 6'9", 210 lb SF (Father Tolton, Columbia, MO)

247Composite Ranking: #2 Overall, #1 SF

Where IU Stands: A quick scan of Porter's YouTube clips will make you both fall in love with his game and also hate your parents for your nonathletic genetics. Porter has a phenomenal all-around game for a 16 year old, capable of highlight reel plays at any moment. Last season, he threw down one of the most incredible dunks I've seen in game action at any level, ever (Seen HERE). While Indiana may seem like a far fetch, it is important to note that Porter grew up in Indiana until his dad took a position at the University of Missouri.

Jordan Tucker, 6'7", 200 lb SF (White Plains Senior, White Plains, NY)

247Composite Ranking: #24 Overall, #6 SF

Where IU Stands: The IU staff has continued their push into the NY market with Jordan Tucker, a versatile forward who has been trending upwards in national rankings. Tucker was offered by the Hoosiers during the spring evaluation period.

Austin Wiley, 6'9", 190 lb PF (Spain Park, Birmingham, AL)

247Composite Ranking: #10 Overall, #3 PF

Where IU Stands: The IU staff has monitored Wiley closely, who has put up monster numbers down in Alabama.

Sidney Wilson, 6'6", 170 lb SF (St. Raymond, Bronx, NY)

247Composite Ranking: #62 Overall, #15 SF

Where IU Stands: Yet another NY name, Wilson received an IU offer during the spring evaluation period.

Mitchell Ballock,  6'5", 185 lb SG (Eudora School, Eudora, KS)

247Composite Ranking: #30 Overall, #5 SG

Where IU Stands: The dominant 5-star SG out of Kansas has quickly made a name for himself. The Hoosiers took note and offered a scholarship during the spring recruiting period.
