Hoosiers will play in Fort Wayne next year as part of 3-game series with IPFW

The Mastodons come to Assembly Hall this season and in 2018, and the Hoosiers will play them in the Coliseum in Fort Wayne next season.

Fort Wayne is home to plenty of IU basketball fans, but it's actually an easier drive to get to East Lansing or Ann Arbor from the 260 than it is to Bloomington. Luckily for Fort Wayne-area Hoosier fans, they'll have a chance for an easy trip to see the Hoosiers during the 2016-17 season.

As you may already know, the IPFW Mastodons are scheduled to play in Assembly Hall this season, on Dec. 9. Today, the Mastodons announced that the Dec. 9 game will be the first of a three-game series with the Hoosiers. The second game, however, will be played next season at the famed Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. The Mastodons actually play at a smaller on-campus arena, but the Coliseum, with its capacity of 13,000, will play host to what should be a partisan IU crowd. The third game of the series will be held back in Bloomington during the 2018-19 season. One other intiguing aspect of the Fort Wayne game is that James Blackmon Jr. is from nearby Marion, and so the game could be a homecoming for him if he does not go pro this coming offseason.
