Perea Out Indefinitely With Kneecap Injury

New, comments

A small team just got even smaller.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports
Jeff Rabjohns broke news early this morning that Indiana starting forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea will likely miss the next 2-4 weeks after suffering a kneecap injury. Perea, a 6-9 junior on the team and a Colombia native and graduate of La Lumiere prep school in La Porte, has been the starting big man for the Hoosiers all season, and his injury means that IU will be forced to go with even smaller lineups than they are right now.

For the Hoosiers, their options will be even more limited at frontcourt. Freshman Emmitt Holt is now in line to see some serious minutes and will likely start tonight against Penn State, and sophomore Collin Hartman may also spend more time at the 5. Holt and Hartman provided some solid relief off the bench against Ohio State when Perea had to sit due to foul trouble. Further down the roster, does this mean Jeremiah April will be rushed into duty?

Perea may be sidelined for a few weeks, but if all goes well with his recovery, he should be back in time for the last month of the B1G season.

UPDATE: He's out indefinitely, accoding to an IU press release.
