As we've been covering, Juwan Morgan, 6-7 PF from Missouri was on an official visit this weekend to Bloomington. In what sounds to be very good news, the Hoosier target has cancelled his last visit to Washington and has revealed he's going to make his decision this week. Morgan has set a decision time for 7 pm EST at his Missouri high school this Wednesday.
The 105th ranked prospect is down to only Vanderbilt and Indiana. If you recall he had scheduled 5 separate official visits but after visiting Vanderbilt he cancelled 2 and then cancelled a third when he finished up in Bloomington this weekend. You've got to take that a pretty positive sign for the Hoosiers. Though it would be dumb to write Vanderbilt off (they've been on him longer and are closer to home) in a normal recruiting year, you'd be pretty happy to see a prospect choosing between those two schools. Indiana obviously has the much larger tradition, history and program clout.
That being said, it would be somewhat concerning if he did choose Vanderbilt. Not only because of the difference in programs, but the need of Indiana's program. We'd obviously love to land some true post players, but guys like Juwan Morgan certainly have a place in college basketball. He's got good size, is physical and a natural rebounder. Add in a strong second bounce and he can defend the rim pretty well as long as he isn't matched against a 7 footer. On the flip side he's still athletic and versatile enough to step out and guard the perimeter of Branden Dawson type kids. Needless to say, with Indiana's lack of size, we really need this kid.
If the Hoosiers can land him it would likely go a long way to helping land his teammate and potential heir to the Yogi Ferrell PG role, Shake Milton. A class of Milton and Morgan would be great for a 2015 class that should only be a supplemental class and not a group that we should expect to lean on heavily right away. So keep your eyes peeled Wednesday night. IU's 2015 class may be made or broken with the Morgan decision.
