The Hoosiers keep marching as they are now one step closer to wrapping up their 2015 freshman class for basketball. The Hoosiers just landed a commitment from 2015 Forward OG Anunoby, a 6-8 Jefferson City, Missouri native. Ultimately the decision came down to Georgia, Indiana and Iowa, where he tabbed Bloomington to be his future home.
OG, is a bit of a late bloomer off the radar kid that spent a good deal of him summer career in the past injured and thus away from the recruiting spotlight. However, his strong play down the stretch in July peaked a lot of interest from some really strong programs. Outside of Georgia and Iowa, who received official visits, Gonzaga and Ole Miss were also a part of the equation.
In the end, the draw of Bloomington and playing for IU was just too much for those other programs to overcome. Interestingly the recruitment of Anunoby has been compared to the likes of Oladipo. I know a lot of people are going to immediately knee jerk and say "come on" but we're not comparing the players so much as the situations. Oladipo also got a lot of strong interest from some bigger programs late in his stretch run towards recruitment and the versatility of both players piqued the interest of many programs. What was a slow recruiting process for both players turned into a sprint from several very good programs in the late summer periods.
Now it remains to be seen how Anunoby's commitment meshes with Tom Crean's plans going forward. If he lands Shake Milton tomorrow afternoon, there is a strong possibility he calls it a class, unless Thomas Bryant or Stephen Zimmerman decide in the fall they want to come. If he misses on Shake, expect some other guard talk to pop up as well. Kyle already told us about JaQuan Lyle. But brace yourselves, because the addition of OG isn't the last Indiana recruiting news for this week. Welcome aboard big fella.
