According to numerous reports on Twitter and elsewhere, IU has called a 4 p.m. press conference for today at which Victor Oladipo and Tom Crean will discuss whether Oladipo will return to IU for his senior season or will enter the NBA Draft. All of the informed and uninformed speculation over the past few weeks has been that Oladipo will leave, and it would be impossible to blame him. The mock drafts I have seen recently all seem to have Victor being picked in or near the top 5. This is an amazing rise for Oladipo, who has improved more during his time at IU than any other player I recall. As a freshman, Oladipo was an energetic kid with a suspect jumper and would have been among the nation's leaders in missed dunks if such a statistic were tracked. As a senior, Oladipo was among the nation's leaders in shooting percentage, he became a deadly three point shooter, and was his usual self on the boards and on defense. Oladipo was a consensus first team All-American, was in the mix for several national player of the year awards (and won at least one, from the Sporting News).
It would have been difficult to predict when Oladipo came to IU from DC as a relatively unheralded recruit that he would have the opportunity to leave early and would be among the most popular players in recent IU history. Thanks for everything, Victor.
