Dustin Dopirak on the zone

HT article on IU's zone defense

Link to article by Dopirak on IU's zone defense in the victory over Michigan State. A couple of things:

  1. I really, really like Dopirak. With writing and analysis like this, perhaps journalism is not dead.
  2. Clappy can coach, after all. We have had some discussion around here about how it is difficult to pin down an offensive or defensive philosophy with Coach Crean. I think that part of this is because he is constantly making adjustments, such as those discussed in the article. My coaching knowledge is stretched to a breaking point with 8th grade girls, so I am impressed with his ability to make such adjustments in-game.
  3. This also bodes well for March. I believe that you have to be able to adjust and play different styles to win in the tournament. I like it that not only does our coach recognize the need to make adjustments, but that our players are smart enough and well prepared enough to roll with such changes and adjustments on the fly.
