As my regular readers know, football recruiting usually falls in the "not enough hours in the day" pile on this site, but some commitments are big enough that they definitely warrant some attention. Yesterday, Kevin Wilson received a verbal commitment from Antonio Allen, a four star safety from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis (source: Rivalsand others). The caveat is that it's August, signing day is six months away, and the Hoosiers went 1-11. Another awful season might dissuade Allen from coming to Bloomington.
All that said, this is a very nice pickup for Wilson and his staff, and it's encouraging that he has enough credibility with the state's players and coaches to land such a commitment. As noted above, Allen is listed as a four star by Rivals. Perhaps more telling is his offer list: Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi, Purdue. As Dan Dakich said last year regarding Gunner Kiel, this is the beginning of Allen's recruitment, not the end. But for now, he's ours. Welcome aboard, Antonio!
