Indiana Hoosiers forward Austin Etherington will miss the remainder of the 2012-13 season after undergoing surgery on a fractured patella, Yahoo!'s Pat Forde reports. The 6'6, 206-pound sophomore injured himself with a few minutes left in the first half of the Hoosier's 100-69 win against Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
Two minutes after entering the game, Etherington went down in the paint and appeared to have injured his left leg. He was taken off the court on a stretcher after an examination. The No. 1 Hoosiers led, 49-29, at the time of the injury.
Etherington, out of Arcadia, Ind., and Hamilton Heights High School, was averaging 1.9 points and 1.7 rebounds in 6.7 minutes per game this season.
Indiana continues to take the hits in its frontcourt. Senior Derek Elston, a 6'9 forward, hasn't played a game for Tom Creen's squad after undergoing knee surgery. Freshman forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea and 7' freshman Peter Jurkin have sat out because of NCAA violations.
