Noah Vonleh commits to Indiana.

The consensus top 10 recruit chose IU over Ohio State, Syracuse, UConn, and North Carolina.

Steve Dykes-US PRESSWIRE

Another day, another recruiting milestone for Indiana's Tom Crean. Just a day after IU opened the season as the nation's number one team, 6-8 forward Noah Vonleh, who is ranked in the top 10 by every major recruiting service, committed to the Hoosiers while in Bloomington on his official visit. As all of my regulars know, I'm not the recruiting expert on this site, but this strikes me as a commitment on par with that of Cody Zeller. That's not to diminish Zeller at all. Cody is a once-in-generation talent for a school and was a defining recruit for the program when IU desperately needed to improve. But with Zeller, the Hoosiers had something of a hometown advantage. With Vonleh, there was nothing of the sort. He is from Boston and plays at a prep school in New Hampshire (New Hampton, which oldtimers like me will recall is the prep school where Bob Knight sent players, including Pat Knight and Tom Coverdale, who needed another year of seasoning). Despite no obvious ties between Vonleh and IU, the midwest, or the IU staff, Crean simply went out and got him, and went toe to toe with some of the best recruiters in the country. Welcome to IU, Noah!
