After a super successful baseball season that saw OF Alex Dickerson with an incredible set of numbers to his name, he has been selected in the third round of the First Year MLB Players Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Poway, California native has shown quite a bat this season and it has landed him as a finalist for the Premiere Player of College Baseball Award. Along with that potential accolade comes back to back All-Big Ten selections as well as several career batting titles for IU baseball, including the All-Time Hits Leader. He is also the first Big Ten player selected in the MLB draft.
I personally was hoping that he would fall a few more draft spots so my beloved Diamondbacks would be able to nab him but the Pirates aren't too shabby of an organization to start with. If all goes to plan he'll eventually be playing minor league baseball back here in Indiana with the Indianapolis Indians and he has a great opportunity to make it to the Bigs. So let's all wish Alex the best of luck in his new found career and hope he remembers how awesome Bloomington was for him in his time here at school.
