Hoosier Headlines 3/29: Trackapalooza!

First off I would like to apologize and explain myself for the recent absence of these posts. I have been on Spring Break and writing a thesis over the last few weeks and have little time/ urge to look up links after staring at a computer and writing a couple thousand words a day. Forgive me for this. Life should be less hectic from here on out and I should have your regularly scheduled program a couple times a week. But enough about me, on to the sports!

This edition of Hoosier Headlines is mostly a recap of the indoor track season and the start of the outdoor season. The track team has really been awesome for the past few months and they are looking to carry that over into the outdoor season. They are one of the main reasons we're currently the 10th best athletic program in the nation (article coming on that later this week).

We also have some baseball and a bit of schadenfreude over the Purdue/Matt Painter situation after the jump.

Track and Field:

Indiana University Athletics - 13 Track Athletes Named All-Americans
Derek Drouin's NCAA high jump title highlighted an NCAA Indoor Championships that garnered Hoosiers All-America recognition 13 times over. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced All-America honors for the 2011 indoor season on Monday, and IU received nine first-team honors and four second-team accolades.

Indiana University Athletics - Derek Drouin on Watch List for Track's "Heisman"
Indiana's Derek Drouin has been placed on the watch list for The Bowerman by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Drouin is one of 10 men on the watch list for the award, which is dubbed the Heisman Trophy of track and field. He is the first male Big Ten athlete ever to make the watch list for the award.

Drouin leads Big Ten to victory, Poore captures school record | Indiana Daily Student
Multitalented IU junior Derek Drouin launched the outdoor season for the IU track and field squad at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge and Andrew Poore sets a school record in the process.

Indiana University Athletics - Women's Track
Indiana did the unthinkable and teamed up with Purdue as well as two other Big Ten schools to go head to head with the SEC, track's power conference. Our girls helped the Big Ten to a 399 to 337 blow out. Big Ten is awesome.

Baseball:

IU looks to shake Evansville loss | Indiana Daily Student
As the Big Ten portion of the Hoosiers’ season looms, IU coach Tracy Smith worked two extra midweek home games into the schedule beforehand, the first of which comes at 3:05 p.m. today against Northern Kentucky.

Catching Up with the Hoosiers: Thank You, So far.
Our goals this season are lofty by IU standards, heck, by anyone’s standards really. Four years ago when we came here as freshmen, I think we had visions of being this good, but really didn’t know exactly how that would come about. Now, we are still here and have the talent and depth to make a serious run at the Top 25 polls.

Indiana University Athletics - Skip's Scoop provides random video fun
In this week's episode of Skip's Scoop, Coach Smith chats with senior outfield T.C. Knipp about balancing his time between being a member of the IU Baseball program and the Fiji Fraternity.

Matt Painter for the LOL:

Purdue makes its move to keep Painter from leaving for Missouri: USA Today
Purdue makes its move to keep Painter from leaving for Missouri. But will they be able to? As the year slows down we need some schadenfreude to enjoy.
