The More You Know: Purdue and North Korea
All right, you black and yella sons of bitches. Let's dance.
As we all know, it's Hate Week here at the Quarry, and we've been enjoying a festive Friday full of japery and fun with our friendly rivals from the north, the Purdue Boilermakers. But how well do we really know Purdue? Do any of us Hoosiers truly understand the Boilermaker psyche? How exactly do you wrap your head around stuff like this? Well, I think I've figured out a way for you to conceptualize Boilermaker life and wonder no longer about what's eating the Gilbert Grapes of West Lafayette. All you have to do is look across the Pacific at a friendly little country called North Korea.

Rivalry Time. Thoughts from a Purdue fan.
I thought it might be interesting to see what the other side thinks, so here goes. As a Purdue fan, I am very excited for Saturday's game. Both teams desperately need wins for their NCAA resumes. It's been a bit of a disappointing year for the Boilermakers as we have collapsed and dropped a few games when holding large leads and have been up and down all year. IU exceeded expectation early.. I have to say I actually watched the Kentucky game and was happy to see you guys get the win. I am from around Louisville, KY and personally, I can't stand UofL or UK fans. Anyways, IU is currently slumping a bit and a win on the road at Purdue would be something that could kickstart a strong finish for the Hoosiers.
The main reason this game scares me is Cody Zeller. You don't have to watch Purdue for more than 5 minutes to realize that our big men are terrible. They try hard which is appreciated but simply don't have to talent to compete in this conference. That glaring weakness has been holding this Purdue team back all year and I feel that Zeller has the ability to exploit that. Purdue will have to do what we did effectively against Meyers Leonard and shut down his ability to get the ball in the first place. Both teams have good shooters who can light it up if left open. If home field advantage is ever going to be a factor, it will be this game. Purdue fans are tired of hearing "We're back!" honestly. The Paint Crew is going to be wild (me included). We want this one a lot. While it's been fun to roll over you guys for a few years, I am excited that the rivalry is going to be competitive again(especially with the next two classes).
Anyways, there are a few of my thoughts about the game. Feel free to leave comments with your own thoughts on the game. I would be interested to hear what you guys think.
Big Ten Midseason Awards
It seems that for this year at least, the Big 10 has replaced the Big East as the top conference in the country. This is definitely a trend that could continue into the future as the Big East looses some of its key members.
This is the most competitive I can remember the Big 10 being in some time. While Ohio State seems to be the cream of the crop again this season, there is a pretty serious cluster from two to eight in the conference. Even bellow that, Northwestern at one point this season looked like a tournament team prior to their fall back to earth, and Iowa at times looks like they can be way better than they are.
The Big 10 is as interesting as it’s ever been this season and it should be a wild rollercoaster ride to the finish. That said, let’s take a look at some mid season awards.
New offensive coordinator
What is the word on the street about the new offensive coordinator? It looks like IU's OC (Rod Smith) went to Arizona, and IU picked up their former OC (Littrell). Also why did the defensive end coach resign? I know there was room for improvement on the defensive line. Just asking because there was a major coaching musical chairs last winter. The staff seems to be doing a good job recruiting (all things considered) and the program appears to be moving forward.
New Uni's??
I just have a simple question. Are the Hoosiers ever going to update the basketball jerseys? Don't get me wrong, I love the current duds, but in my opinion, if you're going to be a nationally recognized team in college sports, you need to have the newest and the best uniforms, which is clearly something IU doesn't have, considering they layout for our uni's have been the same since, well, basically forever. I personally am a huge fan of Gonzaga and Syracuse's uniforms.
2014 Top 10 Recruit Jaquan Lyle
I didn't think this warranted a front page post, at least not yet. One of the top rated players in his class in the nation, Jaquan Lyle will be going to up against fellow Evansville school in Reitz tonight and I'll be there to catch the action. Lyle is a highly coveted recruit that is being pursued hard by the likes of nearly everyone. ESPN has him being pursued mostly by IU, Louisville, Purdue, Va Tech, Illinois and Xavier at the moment. I just thought it would be good to post right now the current thoughts on him by national recruiters, before my personal opinions of seeing him live for the first time bias the interpretation of the national thoughts.
The 6'4" Lyle is a super talented PG from Evansville, Indiana. He is a smooth combo guard who does a good job of getting into the lane and distributing once the defense collapses. He has a great handle on the ball and can break ankles as well as pass with some of the best of them. He has many different facets in his game that allow him to change his approach from one game to the next. One day he can beat you off the bounce and score 20 points and the next he'll play the distributor and let his teammates beat you with wide open shots. The biggest knock against him to this date is attitude. Conflicting reports say that he's fine and is growing out of his immature ways. Other reports say that he lets the game and the officials get to him and shows poor body language.
That is all for now. I will have a full write up tonight on the front page after getting a look at him.
An Open Letter to Santa
Dear Santa,
I hope that this letter finds you well as you prepare for your annual journey of joy dispensing. Some of my friends at Crimson Quarry have been discussing the current basketball season, and their expectations and wants. Given that you like to "rock the Crimson", I have always figured you for an IU fan, too.
I have been especially good this year. Well, actually, the last three years. We have put up with quite a lot since Denim Shirt left. We have done so patiently, and without a lot of griping. I even made it through Kentucky week without making an inbred joke (John M. did not, however, so if you want to give him a lump of coal, that's up to you). Anyway, here's my wish list:

Visiting UK fan story on KSR.com
Anyone witness anything remotely similar to this in B-town on Saturday? Not that I would be shocked, since it seems this is the way of the B1G student fan these days (I call it the Naperville effect), but was it pervasive? Also, check out the comments. I'll admit I was sort of trolling the site, but kind of surprised (not really) to find that trolls from that other school made it there as well.
Watched from Afghanistan
I just want to say how proud I am of the Hoosiers. I got to watch their amazing last shot victory over the Wildcats this morning for me and evening for you from Afghanistan. It was well worth staying awake all night. I hope I get to come see them play when I come home in Feb. Go Big Red!
Love seeing all the support these kids are getting. Hope the next few weeks keep this streak alive. Looking for a Top 20 Ranking this week!
