IU Soccer hosts St Louis on Wednesday

When I came to campus, this was the rivalry game for IU soccer. This was the game that mattered for recruiting and bragging rights. This is where you could see IU's best and brightest go against players like Matt McKeon and Brian McBride. SLU comes in as a top-ten ranked team, while IU currently sits at 17th. And despite coming off of a disappointing season, and losing a lot of talent to the pros, the Hoosiers actually look a fair bit better than last season. The early returns are pretty positive, with the Hoosiers generating a lot more chances than their foes (15-10) and more quality chances (5.2-3.5), and playing stout defense again. The only real problem has been finishing on frame, as their shot-on-goal percentage is the lowest of the Todd Yeagley era (by quite a bit at 34.6% - previously 39% in 2011 was the lowest). But the Hoosiers have a real shot against SLU, especially at home, and a win would really boost their national profile. That would be particularly helpful as they head into a tougher-than-ever Big Ten conference, needing to carve out some space for themselves to land a NCAA tourney berth. Come out and support the Hoosiers tomorrow night!
