The Hoosiers will have their highest-ever seed when the Big Ten Tournament begins next week.

IU's best basketball moments over the past couple of weeks have happened when someone else is on the court. Two nights after the Hoosiers failed to seize control of the Big Ten, Michigan State handed IU its first-ever top seed in the Big Ten Tournament. IU was seeded #3 in 1999 and 2008, but otherwise has been #4 or lower in every Big Ten Tournament. I'll have a discussion of IU's Big Ten Tournament history next week, but it is awful. IU has reached the semifinals only four times and the title game only once, and has never won the whole thing. IU will play its first BTT game at noon on Friday against the winner of the 8/9 game. Currently, the most likely outcome is that Illinois will play Purdue in that game, but there still is a chance for a three or four team logjam at 8-10. Purdue is 7-10, so they have to beat Minnesota or they definitely are in the #9 slot.
