Titus says IU fans act like Crean is the only coach that could have righted the ship after the Sampson scandal.
Wrong - we just appreciate that he accomplished it. While dozens of other coaches MIGHT have been able to do it - Crean actually did it - and by the way Hundreds of coaches were capable of failing at that task.
He also says IU will never regain its former glory as long as Crean is Coach - wow this guy can foresee the future - he must be rich from using that skill to bet on games that he already knew who would win - following the Sampson scandal and 3 horrible years of rebuilding IU managed 2 excellent seasons. The current recruits appear capable of continuing that success into the future.
While IU fell short of Final 4 expectations (by quite a bit) - here is a short list of teams and Coaches that failed to reach F4 in the last 2 years - Duke (Coach K), MSU (Izzo), NC (Roy Williams), Kansas (Bill Self), Wisconsin (Bo Ryan) Where's the hate for these Coaches? The media love Bo Ryan - they point out he is a lock to win 20 games and finish at the top of the B1G BUT what does he do in the tourney? Duke, Kansas and UNC are legendary programs that didn't have to climb out of any holes and yet their programs could also be accused of under-performing. It happens. Our Legendary Coach Knight "failed" to win Championships in 1975 and 1980 that IMO were better than the 1981 and 1987 teams that did. Sometimes its a bad night, a bad bounce or a bad match-up. Syracuse was probably the worst match-up IU could have faces last year. Am I disappointed? - yes. Do I think Crean is a loser because his team came up short? - no. Do I think Crean can have as much success or even more that he did the last 2 years? - yes.
Titus says Crean is a "laughing stock" among basketball fans. Well Calipari is called a cheater by everybody but UK fans and I bet he sleeps just fine.
Titus claims Crean wasn't with Cody and Victor on draft night and that this means something. I have no first hand knowledge about that, but, Cody and VO have said nothing but positive things in every pre and post draft story I have read. I think one or both have already been back to spend time with this year's team and I expect both to have life long relationships with Crean as we have seen with DWade.
SO I guess I have to ask Titus - what's with all the hate man? Really, of all the coaches in the B1G Crean is the one on the Hot Seat? Go back 3 years to see where IU was and where we are now - next plot the trend of Purdue. When some other schools asked Painter out - Purdue bought him a shiny new ring and made him promisies so he wouldn't leave. I wonder how they think that's worked out so far?
