Tough to score when you’re shoved every possession.

Just pointing out I can't watch games like these in a group
So I definitely won’t be around to comment

33-22 at the half...
Lets take it to them in the 2nd half!
Just read the HOF inductees for this year
No tuna, chris carter, or bettis….It doesn’t look like Marvin will have a chance when his time comes
checking in to say I like how the first half went
need to take care of the ball better. We have 6 turnovers and only two were actually Purdue’s doing. Fixed that in the last 8 minutes or so but that trend has to continue if we’re to close out.

Some bullshit picks by LewJack...
they need to call that if they call the one on Roth
Christian Watford scared the hell out of me just now.
Looks like he’s okay, though.

Congratulations Hoosiers,
I had to watch this on gamecast, so I can’t say much about how the game was played, but it seemed like a grinder.
As much as I hate to see you guys win in Mackey, win you did. Here’s to a good (and injury-free) rematch in Assembly Hall!
knocked down free throws
And hit the big shots. Good game. See you at Assembly.

Ahhhh!
This feels great. All respect to Purdue (particularly Robbie Hummel) and all, but man, this has been a long time coming.
it is rare as a sports fan for a game to exceed my most optimistic scenario. wow.

I’ll likely not have more advanced thoughts on the game until tomorrow evening.

Congrats on the win.
I can’t say I was too optimistic this game. Purdue has been struggling offensively and our post defense is just meh. Both of those became rather obvious.
I expect IU to win the next couple games in this series as well. Purdue will be lacking some serious talent and experience in comparison next year. 2013 the Rivalry will truly be back.
If the Bulls weren’t embarrassing the Bucks right now I probably would feel worse about this.
Yessssssssssssss!
Good win especially when damn near everything was going against us. Way to hit FTs and way to make Purdue take bad shots. It’s especially impressive considering that Purdue hit every piece of crap 3 that they threw up.

I kinda find this funny
Purdue shot absolutely terribly. Hulls made some miracle shots, that is for sure.
So you don't think any of the contested 3s that Purdue hit at the beginning of the 2nd
were a little lucky? Just because IU played good defense and Purdue shot like shit doesn’t mean that some of the shots that actually fell for Purdue weren’t fortuitous. Good game by the way.

Oh a lot were contested.
Some were, some weren’t. And yes, good game. I’m really surprised IU didn’t feed the ball to Zeller more especially after Carrol and Marcius were in foul trouble during the first.
Everything was going against you?
Really? I mean, come on.
IU spent 26 mins in the bonus. Purdue shot 29% overall. IU shot 41%. Please point me to the place where “everything was going against us”.
IU was the better team here, my Boilers sucked it up. I am perfectly content saying that you beat us by playing better tonight. But don’t try to add any extra challenge you had to overcome. The reffing wasn’t skewed against you, Purdue didn’t throw up trash and make it consistently, there isn’t anything here that would have made the game harder than just having to beat the team playing against you.
Saying that EVERYTHING was going against us was a stretch.
Admittedly I was a bit drunk when I wrote that. Mostly I was referring to the factors in play before the game started. I’m not sure if you Boilers know this or not but generally if Teddy Valentine officiates one of our games it is a death sentance. That just so happened to not be the case tonight. But I think I know why. I’ve heard it from a few people who watch a lot more B1G basketball than I do that Valentine absolutely abhors flopping. So when the Boilers decided to flop on their first 4 three pointers in a row you gave him reason to NOT make calls favoring you.
Then there’s also the crowd. Every fan in that building had to know that this was absolutely a must-win game for Purdue. Lose it and you are almost definitely NIT-bound and it’s highly unlikely that you get a W over a ranked opponent this season. And right off the bat the crowd was very much into it. That could’ve made a huge impact on the game. Fortunately IU started out playing good D and Purdue remembered that they suck at life and missed damn near everything they put up. poof The crowd got taken out of it.
Finally I thought that Purdue would come out with more fire. They absolutely should have since this game meant so much more to you than it did to IU. Incredibly that didn’t appear to be the case. IU clamored for loose balls, blocked out, and out-rebounded Purdue right from the tip-off. Anyone could see that IU was more active and locked-in. Could it be that CMP didn’t properly prepare his team for the game and perhaps didn’t stress enough the energy that would be needed to win? Sounds like bad coaching to me.
Speaking of bad coaching, what the hell kind of offensive game plan was that? Are Purdue fans questioning Painter a little bit right now? Because you should be.

Ted Valentine's reffing sucks in general.
I believe it was him who gave Evan Turner the Micheal Jordan treatment a few years ago. He is a terrible ref no matter who is playing at any arena.
And some crazy, psychotic fans are questioning Painter. The rest of the reasonable fans see and hear him screaming at his players to move on offense and come better off switches. A majority of these players were content with watching the Hummel, Moore, and JJ show the last three years and thus don’t put nearly as much effort as they should into the offensive part of the game. They still stand around the perimeter like Moore is gonna drive to the hoop or JJ is gonna do his infamous turn-around jumper.
"come better off switches"?
I have no idea what part of my brain thought that sounded good.
I think his defensive gameplan was solid.
The only Hoosier scoring at will was Oladipo and even he started out slow. If not for some heroics from Remy Abell and a few difficult makes by Jordy Hulls the game would have been a lot closer and could’ve gone the other way.
The offensive gameplan was truly awful though. Plus it seemed like he didn’t make any halftime adjustments to his ‘stand around then shoot a contested 3’ plan other than apparently telling his players to stop flopping, which did work to some extent. The only props I can really give Painter is that he does a good job in getting his players to not turn it over. But even that won’t win you many games if you can’t put the ball through the hoop.

The team just isn't very good this year
Which I kind of knew was going to happen before the season started, but it seems a lot of people are only realizing that now.
The offensive game plan often does devolve into “pass and chuck 3’s” because none of the players want to drive. Our best post player, Carrol, has no post moves what-so-ever so passing to him is pretty useless. When someone does drive, instead of moving to potentially put themselves in position to get an open look they stand there. It has been happening all season and I expect it to keep happening.
I honestly expect next year’s Purdue team to be better, since Hammmons has post moves and both RJ and Davis are capable of driving (and prefer to). Hopefully Painter realizes that and gives the freshman plenty of play time early in the season.
Purdue absolutely needs a post presence.
That alone would move you up a couple spots in the Big Ten. Next year will be interesting for sure.

I think we will probably move up a few spots next year
But not seriously compete for the Big Ten title. 2013 Purdue will be bringing in at least three players, two of which are lighting up teams at the moment. I think maybe 2013, definitely 2014 is when Purdue gets back to the quality of play it had the last few years.

Congrats on the win.
I obviously don’t like it but it is what it is. Our loss didn’t result from bad coaching, poor officiating, or a lack of effort but from a talent deficit. I still don’t believe IU is a top 25 team but they are a better team than ours. You may make the tournament but I will be pulling for you to lose in the first round.
I hate posts like that. There is no platonic ideal of a “top 25 team.” IU is 18-6, has quality wins over Kentucky, Ohio State, @ NC State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and @ Purdue, has played the #31 schedule per the RPI, and its two bad losses (Minny, Nebraska) aren’t all that bad. The teams that both Sag and Pomeroy consider the two best teams in the nation has four losses between them, and IU is responsible for half of those. For all of the talk about Crean’s overall road record (and I loved Painter pushing back with the same evidence I used, namely Painter’s own road record early in his PU career), we’re 4-5 in true road games and 5-5 away from home. We are #9 in Pomeroy, #10 in Sagarin, and #17 in the RPI. It’s February 6, so the days of hunches and beauty contests are over. It’s about accomplishment at this point, so if someone wants to argue that IU “isn’t a top 25 team,” then list 25 more accomplished teams.

You lost 3 in row but by all rights you really should have won the Nebraska game and I will give you credit for not suffering any meltdowns like we have had with Xavier, Butler, and even the last couple of minutes of the IU game. IU’s team this year really is quite a bit better than ours and I don’t have a lot of hope for a win next month in Bloomington I just hope it isn’t a blowout. With the kids you have coming in I would guess you will be quite a bit better than just top 20-25 in a year or two.

Awesome. I spent the game with real world friends enjoying the game and super bowl festivities. I assume my readers were doing the same. And, of course I knew that some Purdue goof would come over here and think he was going to hurt my feelings. not going to happen.

Yeah, that's a really silly put-down
“Your game comment threads are less active (than someone’s, somewhere) THEREFORE . . . . IU fans can’t read.”
I find it particularly funny that this was put-down was honed and deployed to put down CQ this week, and all three of us stayed away from the Purdue comment thread. In general, I do like having game threads – it’s nice to have the thread open during games if I want to ask someone else what they thought of a call, etc. But a game thread is simply not the essence of what CQ (or any sportsblog/site) is about, let alone evidence of anything about IU fans.
So go ahead, Purdue fans – take your own comment totals as some sort of proof of your superior fanaticism. IU fans don’t care- we’re busy watching the games, living our lives, and having fun.

Most IU fans like to go to this cool place during the weekends that you might want to try.
That place is called out of the house. It’s really a pretty magical place. You can meet new people and experience new things. Although you cannot play World of Warcraft and you cannot hide your undoubtedly hideous Purdue gf/wife from the light of day. Now that I think about it you probably are making the right choice in never leaving the house. Saves you some embarrassment.
Good game last night, by the way. Have fun in the NIT.

5 sounds about right.
I can’t really blame them. They know the shot probably isn’t going in so if they flop and get the foul called they very well may get…one point out of the possession.
