Hoosiers and Hoyas in Championship Game Tonight

Indiana had a good test against Georgia in Brooklyn, but pulled away by the middle of the 2nd half to win 66-53. The Hoosiers had early foul trouble with Cody Zeller, Victor Oladipo and Jordan Hulls on the bench for much of 1st half. Georgia led by 1 going into halftime. Indiana couldn't hit a shot and you could see the offensive struggles without their best players. Zeller had a quiet night with 6 points and 4 rebounds playing 27 minutes. Tom Crean hopefully has a backup plan for the depth in the frontcourt, which could be an issue in the future. But the backup plan is probably in street clothes with PF Hanner Perea and C Peter Jurkin sitting out due to suspension.

Victor Oladipo was the catalyst for IU in this win. He registered 15 points and 8 rebounds and ignited the struggling offense. Jordan Hulls was the one getting him the ball, he has really developed into a good all around player. His defense is noticeably improved and helping his team create turnovers leading to fast break points.

Christian Watford has 14 points on 4-10 shooting from the field in the win, but in order for IU to be successful this season, he's going to have to get his hands dirty in the middle and help Zeller clean up the boards. Watford floats the perimeter way too much; his game is much better suited working inside-out.

The Hoosiers have great depth and energy off the bench with Will Sheehey, Maurice Creek, and Remy Abell providing valuable experience. Jeremy Hollowell looks like a freshman out there at times and needs more experience before he will really contribute.

Indiana Hoosiers will have a much harder test tonight at 10 PM in the Championship Game against Georgetown. The Hoyas took down No. 11 UCLA 78-70, led by junior guard Markel Stark with 23 points and second year forward Otto Porter with 18 points and 11 rebounds. This is a big team and Watford is going to have to come and play. IU can exploit their size with their own speed, especially Yogi Ferrell and Oladipo. IU should also win the war of attrition, Georgetown doesn't have much depth and that could be the deciding factor at the end of this game.
