SB Nation Indiana Editor's Pick
2014 Top 10 Recruit Jaquan Lyle
I didn't think this warranted a front page post, at least not yet. One of the top rated players in his class in the nation, Jaquan Lyle will be going to up against fellow Evansville school in Reitz tonight and I'll be there to catch the action. Lyle is a highly coveted recruit that is being pursued hard by the likes of nearly everyone. ESPN has him being pursued mostly by IU, Louisville, Purdue, Va Tech, Illinois and Xavier at the moment. I just thought it would be good to post right now the current thoughts on him by national recruiters, before my personal opinions of seeing him live for the first time bias the interpretation of the national thoughts.
The 6'4" Lyle is a super talented PG from Evansville, Indiana. He is a smooth combo guard who does a good job of getting into the lane and distributing once the defense collapses. He has a great handle on the ball and can break ankles as well as pass with some of the best of them. He has many different facets in his game that allow him to change his approach from one game to the next. One day he can beat you off the bounce and score 20 points and the next he'll play the distributor and let his teammates beat you with wide open shots. The biggest knock against him to this date is attitude. Conflicting reports say that he's fine and is growing out of his immature ways. Other reports say that he lets the game and the officials get to him and shows poor body language.
That is all for now. I will have a full write up tonight on the front page after getting a look at him.

Attitude?
Kid’s 15 years old, for crying out loud. I’d love to see him paired in the backcourt with James Blackmon, Jr., who dropped 40 on Indianapolis Howe this past weekend.

Damn. TC Howe is within walking distance of my house. I wish I had known about that game.

in my experience
a kid with an attitude at 15 likely still has an attitude at 20. Of course there are tons of examples where it fixes itself, but it is something that has to be accounted for. Poor attitudes can bring a great player to his knees. I’ll know more tonight, but the rumors locally are that he struggles with composure.

In my experience
Everyone has an attitude at 15. But I say that as a parent of two kids in middle school, so my feelings on the subject at the moment are a little skewed. I can live with a hot head, I think. What I don’t want is a prima donna. Thankfully, we seem to be devoid of those on this current roster, and there is no one coming in next year either who strikes me as having that kind of complex. That’s refreshing, by the way, since it is not uncommon for a lot of these kids through the AAU circuits to constantly hear from everyone how wonderful they are.

the allegations of his attitude are something in that department
but… I’m not ready to judge a 16 year old on rumors. I’ll take a look for myself and see if he’s just a big fish in a small pond or if there is a potential red flag there. My money would be on the former. All the kids that blow up here in the Evansville region tend to be treated too much like pros and not enough like kids. It tends to give them a complex.

UPDATE
I will be catching Lyle’s game tomorrow night. Tonight I will be sticking slightly closer to home and going to see super sophomore that the girls program should be looking at Tyra Buss. She’s a slashing guard that is approaching the 2000 career points mark halfway through her sophomore season. She dropped 53 points last night and she will be competing with my alma mater (a pretty good young team in their own right tonight). I’ll probably have a write up for her tomorrow and Lyle on Friday.

I was at the Gibson southern bosse game
Where you from aj
was sick as a dog
otherwise I’d have been there. Although I hear my Titans did pretty OK. Will be heading to Princeton tomorrow though.

Titans got some work to do… Game wasn’t as close as the score…
I went to Gibson southern also… Graduated in 01
I was class of '07
the fall of the republic as I like to call it. We’ve struggled as a team since about ’05.
