    Nice to see

That Crean is following in the tradition of IU basketball coaches who speak their mind. It’s what everybody loved about Coach Knight and what made everybody cringe about with Coach Davis. To the extent that Twitter can provide any insight, this is interesting. Coaches usually are very diplomatic, and I often wonder what they think of each other. By the way: is Calipari the one who woke up on third base? I think it’s a better analogy to say that he just showed up at third base while the managers and umpires were discussing the lineup cards.

That is a good point. Other than the medium, it very much reminded me of something Knight would have said about those chickensh!t SOBs his beloved Big Ten colleagues. Still, we’ve won 16 games in the last two seasons. Let’s complain after we win some recruiting battles. A coach who wins and says such things is a bully; a coach who loses and says such things looks like a whiner. I want a bully, dammit!

    Point taken

And, truth be told: I’d prefer to have a coach that crushes the competition and then just shuts the hell up. Although, ever time I see or hear of Lou Henson, I think “chickenshit SOB”.

Bill Frieder was the “chickenshit SOB.” I can’t recall any names Knight specifically called Henson, but Henson’s “he’s just a classic bully!” rant was, well, classic. Knight was under his skin, big time.

    sigh

I am firmly of the belief that (i) it was best for Bob Knight and IU to part ways, and (ii) we all need to move on from that (10 years later, now). Still, I miss him. Does that make me codependent? Is there a 12-step program for me?

    I don't mind Crean's comments...

…if for no other reason than I feel they’re completely true. At this point, I’m no longer sure what coaches actually do their recruiting, etc. cleanly. It’s bothersome, particularly in college basketball, which I feel is the most authentic big market sport in terms of athlete effort.
