Hoosier Headlines for May 4, 2010.
While I'm sure it's beginning to ring hollow, I apologize for the slim content. I have lots going on in my personal life right now. It's almost all good stuff, but between all that and the beginning of the offseason, it's easy to let this place go. I'll continue to check in as often as possible and will definitely be firing on all cylinders by June. In any event, I haven't missed much:

IU close on Davis? Fellow recruit is pushing hard (The Indianapolis Star)
"I talk to him all the time about it," Etherington said. "I feel like he knows where he wants to go, but it's his choice and I'm there for him wherever he goes." As I have mentioned before, Davis is a top 50 recruit and landing him would be a big step for Crean's program. I'm not one to draw lines in the sand or to suggest that a particular recruit is make or break, but Jeremiah Davis would be a good foundation. -
The C-J's Sunday College Basketball Notebook (The Courier-Journal)
"My mom is supposed to be having a meeting this weekend with the financial aid people, making sure I'll be able to pay for everything with financial aid," Offutt told the Indianapolis Star. "As long as that happens, it looks like I'll be headed to Indiana." This is a nice pickup. At worst, he'll be a solid guy to have on the bench, a reserve with more ability than the typical end-of-the-bencher. At best, he'll recover from his injuries and will be a "free" top 100 player. -
Could Indiana land Emmanuel Negedu? (College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN)
This issue warrants a more thorough post, and I plan to make one on it in the near future. In a nutshell, my position is that it's worth pursuing, but cautiously. -
Men’s basketball recruits shooting guard Matt Carlino, former Indiana commit (The Daily Bruin )
The long, strange saga of Matt Carlino ends with a return to the west coast. -
Report: Former IU guard Armon Bassett arrested (Inside the Hall)

That Negedu thing really, really bothers me.
When you think about it, this kid could die on our watch. It sucks when a kid like Maurice Creek goes down with a severe injury and misses a year. We’re all disappointed for him. But Emmanuel could theoretically go out on that court and never return. This needs to be treated with the utmost seriousness, and as I suggested to the kid on the ESPN article…
Get it checked, and rechecked, and triple checked. Be absolutely certain you know what the risks are. Be certain you’re safe.
He’s a talented kid, and would help the Hoosiers, no question. However, I’m not willing to gamble his life for a couple more wins.
Love listening to Etherington talk, btw.
He’s absolutely sold on this program. It’s pretty awesome to hear.
Man, for a moment there I thought Armon
had been arrested inside the Hall. There’s another black eye for the program. Then I got it. Oh, and Xavier Keeling got a DUI according to the same article. The lesson: Never, never quit the Hoosiers, because things don’t work out so well after that.
