Hire Brad Stevens
I am a fan of the Ducks. But if U of O can't lure Stevens away after the tournament, I hope Indiana hires him. He is a great in state recruiter, been in Indiana his whole life. I'd love to see the Hoosiers get back on the map. That 10 year contract should have gone to Stevens :|
Did the Indiana Athletic Director screw up by giving Crean the 10 year deal instead of Stevens?

This is ridiculous.
The only thing left of this program was a name on a jersey. Butler has had years of players building up to this Final Four team. Indiana lost everything, and it’s somehow Crean’s fault that he can’t create a new program from scratch and take it to the tournament in 2 years? Your boy Brad Stevens couldn’t have done it either, I assure you of that. The coach we have is the right guy for the job, but the job was at least a 5 year commitment to rebuilding. After those 5 years, feel free to evaluate Tom Crean and the job he’s done, and see if they’ve made any progress. If Indiana is still sporting a losing record, still stuck in the bottom of the Big Ten, then perhaps change will be warranted. At that time, though, this program will be somewhere in the top half of the Big Ten and get some sort of tournament seed. Those are reasonable, realistic expectations, and they will represent the completion of this rebuilding project. I hope you remember then that you made this post, and I hope you then realize that maybe you should have cut the coach a little slack.
Yep. Most IU fans are a long way of giving up on Crean, who not all that long ago was a hot young coach with a Final Four before age 40. Even if the worst were to happen IU wouldn’t be in the market for another three years, at least.

Seriously?
Stevens is a good coach, no doubt. But we shouldn’t crown him the next coming of Bobby Knight just yet, even if Butler cuts down the nets tonight.
Coach Crean has this program going in the right direction. I’d expect that next year we’re back to respectability in the Big Ten, with a fair shot at an NCAA tourney berth.

Realize that we're not one year out, we're 2 years away?
It’s not that I don’t think we can get close, but I think we’re a .500 team next year (and I’d consider that progress). That probably isn’t good enough for the top 96 of 347 teams. I’m naive enough to think, though, they’d take more midmajors than major conference teams for the extra berths. That may be a poor assumption.
Stop This!
Some coaches are better suited for certain types of Programs. IU is a pressure job, I’m not sure Stevens is built for that. Brad is a great rising coach and I hope he sticks at Butler for a long, long time. I was pulling for them big time as an Indy resident and Sports Fan, it was just a great local story… but it had very little to do with IU.
Tom Crean was and is a great hire for IU. The question we should have asked was should have we just hired Crean 2 years prior to that, when he expressed privately that he was interested then and seemed to be a better fit in hindsight than “You Know Who”.
But this talk is unproductive and damaging to the cause and should cease immediately.
