Indiana 23, Western Michigan 19: Hoosiers start fast, force Bronco fumble to preserve win.
The above headline could have been written last week as well. Like last week, IU's offense looked great in the first half and bogged down in the second half. Like last week, IU had numerous chances to put the game away but still had to sweat on the last play. Like last week, a nice defensive play (last week it was Ray Fisher, this week it was Greg Middleton) forced a game-saving fumble. The huge number of penalties is a major concern. Still, WMU is a better team that EKU, so I'll take it as some sort of progress. I'll be back with a more detailed recap once the stats are available, but for now, 2-0 is better than any available alternative.

it sounds ridiculous
but i think the game at Akron will be a good indicator of where this team is at (i.e. if they’re going to be able to win a Big Ten game). the good news is that this league is just not good – State can’t beat Central, NW holds on for dear life, and UW probably should’ve lost to Fresno.
i’m not saying IU will beat any of those teams, but it’s worth nothing.

I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all. A third win is nothing to sniff at, so the Akron game is crucial and will give us an idea of whether IU has any hope. IU always seems to play reasonably well in MAC road games. The other team is so fired up that it seems to work against them.
