Maurice Creek cleared by NCAA, will play for Indiana in 2009-10.
Hat-tip to the Hoosier Scoop, which tells us that according to a Twitter post from Tom Crean, the NCAA Clearinghouse has cleared Maurice Creek to play this season. It doesn't seem that there was much concern on the part of the staff that it wouldn't happen, but this is important news for the program. As I have said before, it's impossible to know how good IU will be this year. It's possible for the Hoosiers to dramatically improve on their performance without significantly improving their record. Nevertheless, any hypothetical involving postseason play depends upon Creek, one of IU's two most highly-rated recruits, suiting up. That will happen. Whew.

At Traditions & Spirits of IU
which is part of Welcome Week, Crean was there and introduced his whole team with a small comment about each. For Creek: “It was a long and hard process to get him here.”
Also, I saw Bawa in the foot court the other day — pretty sure he lifted a chair over a table with his pinky. He’s massive.
The NCAA is unpredictable. I’ll never forget that they made George Leach sit out for falling 10 points short on the SAT (he took the test early in his senior year and didn’t take it against because someone at IU—according to Knight, Ron Felling—did the math wrong and told Leach he had scored high enough). At around the same time, gun-runner Zach Randolph got a waiver that allowed him to play immediately for MSU.
